About the Book

Allergy is becoming more common. The number of people affected in the United Kingdom has risen dramatically since the early 1970s and it continues to increase. As many as one in three people in the UK now suffer from a medical problem caused by or associated with allergy. This increase has occurred because many of the factors thought to be responsible for causing allergies are related to the Western lifestyle, many of which seem to be especially potent in small children. This book explains what happens in the body when an allergy occurs. It also describes the different ways of diagnosing allergy and discusses the different treatments available.

About the Author

Dr Joanne Clough trained at University College Hospital, London, spent two years as an MRC Research Fellow in Australia, and is currently Senior Lecturer in Paediatric Medicine at the University of Southampton and Honorary Consultant Paediatrician at Southampton University Hospital.
