Our knowledge of the bowels has increased enormously
over recent years and doctors can now diagnose and cure or relieve nearly
all disorders of the bowel. Disorders of the bowel are extremely common.
At any given time one in five people is experiencing discomfort from their
bowels, which can largely be prevented by eating more suitable food.
The food we eat and the way we live our lives have enormous effects on our
bowels. This book tries to explain these matters, helping you to keep the
workings of your bowel comfortable and advising what to do if things go
wrong.
Dr Ken Heaton was until recently Reader in Medicine

and nutrition. He has been on many national committees and has published
