Coronary heart disease can cause angina and
heart attacks and is one of the commonest causes of death and disability
in the world. The word coronary refers to the coronary arteries,
which supply the heart muscle with vital oxygen and nutrients; when they
become narrowed with fat and cholesterol, a clot can form and block one
of the arteries causing a heart attack.
This book is all about coronary heart disease and what we can do to prevent
and treat it, with details of the drugs, bypass surgery and angioplasty
in current use.
Dr Christopher Davidson is a cardiologist at

had extensive experience in coronary heart disease and high blood pressure,
and is currently Chairman of the Committee on Cardiac Rehabilitation of
the British Heart Foundation.
