Most people get a bit more forgetful as they grow older. Although this can be embarrassing, it is usually nothing to worry about. Often some simple tips are all that’s needed to cope. But, occasionally, memory loss is a symptom of something more serious, such as Alzheimer’s disease or blood vessel disease, requiring expert help.

This book tells you how to get help and support, with detailed practical guidance for carers, relatives and friends.
Dr Christopher N. Martyn trained as a neurologist. He is a Consultant at the Wessex Neurological Centre at Southampton General Hospital and a Clinical Scientist with the Medical Research Council, running a research programme into degenerative diseases of the nervous system.
Dr Catharine R. Gale has a first class degree in Population Studies at the University of Southampton. She now works at the Medical Research Council, investigating the relationship between cerebrovascular disease and decline in mental function in elderly people.
